The Power of Hypnosis

In addition to addressing each client's physical needs, Iron Hills Gym also offers access to hypnotherapy to assist in improving physical and mental performance. We are able to offer packages to assist with sports performance, mental resilience, weight loss, addictions, anxiety and sleep issues.

Hypnosis is a very powerful tool and can help you achieve things you never thought possible. In life we tend to set our own limits based on how we frame the information we get from the world around us.

Our clinical hypnotherapist, Paul Hide (DCH, MBSCH) has over 20 years experience helping people to improve their quality of life and achieve goals they never believed they could.

Iron Hills coach, Richard, has used hypnotherapy for 20 years as a method for personal growth, overcoming physical and mental barriers to improve his life in every area.

A practical approach to lasting change

Most people arrive at hypnotherapy with one of two mindsets: either they’re unsure what it is and a little wary, or they’ve read so much conflicting information online that it all starts to sound like empty promises. Hypnosis is often misunderstood, and unfortunately it’s not always explained clearly.

At Iron Hills, hypnotherapy is presented for what it actually is: a structured, evidence-informed way of working with attention, habit, and automatic behaviour.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a state of focused attention, similar to being completely absorbed in a task, a film, or even your own thoughts while driving. In this state, the mind becomes more receptive to useful suggestions and new ways of thinking.

You are not asleep, unconscious, or under anyone’s control. You can hear everything, you can move and you can stop at any time. What changes is your level of focus. Distractions drop away, and the mind becomes easier to work with.

This matters because many of the behaviours people struggle with such as overeating, loss of motivation, performance anxiety are not logical problems. They are patterns, and patterns are best changed at the level they are created.

Why use hypnotherapy?

Most people already know what they “should” be doing. The difficulty is doing it consistently.

Hypnotherapy helps to close that gap.

Rather than relying purely on willpower, it works by:

  • Reducing internal resistance to change

  • Strengthening focus and follow-through

  • Reframing unhelpful automatic responses

  • Reinforcing behaviours that align with your goals

It’s not magic or a shortcut, rather a powerful way of making change feel more natural and less of a constant battle.

Weight loss

Weight loss is rarely about information. Most people already understand calories, nutrition, and exercise. The real challenge lies in habits, impulses, and emotional triggers.

Hypnotherapy can help by:

  • Reducing cravings and impulsive eating

  • Changing emotional relationships with food

  • Supporting consistency with healthier choices

  • Strengthening motivation without relying on willpower alone

The aim is not restriction, but the freedom to make better choices by default.

Sports performance

In sport, the difference between good and excellent is often mental. Focus, composure, and confidence under pressure are all trainable skills.

Hypnotherapy can support:

  • Improved concentration and “in the moment” awareness

  • Reduced performance anxiety

  • Faster recovery from mistakes

  • Stronger belief in your own ability

This isn’t about hype or forced positivity, it’s about creating the mental conditions that allow your training to show up when it matters.

A straightforward approach

At Iron Hills, sessions are practical and grounded. There are no gimmicks, no theatrics, and no attempt to “take control” of your mind. Instead, you are guided into a state where change becomes easier to access, and then supported in building patterns that last.

If you’re curious but unsure, that’s a perfectly good place to start. Hypnotherapy doesn’t require belief, just a willingness to engage with the process.
